Things To Do

There are many things to do in Dalyan, including Boat Trips, Sailing, Turtle Spotting, Turkish Baths, Adventure Tours, Diving & Snorkelling, and visiting the ancient ruins of Caunos. The town sits on the Dalyan river fed by the local mountain streams that converge on the Koycegiz lake. Locals and tourists alike can enjoy the natural Mud Baths and Thermal Springs at the side of the lake, then meander through the maze of reed beds, passing the ancient Rock Tombs carved into the side of the mountain 3000 years ago. The river opens onto the beautiful Iztuzu Beach, better known as Turtle Beach where the gently shelving beach is home to the endangered Loggerhead turtle as well as much bird life.
turkey boat trips
Dalyan is a place that has something for everyone, no matter what your age; from doing nothing but relaxing, to white water rafting or sea kyaking, to lazy boat trips along the coast, stopping to snorkel and eat. Its a good place for the children/teenagers in your family: they can enjoy a greater degree of independence from the adults without getting into trouble. It is by and large a very safe place and the locals are friendly and trustworthy.

The boats from the Dalyan boat cooperative will take you wherever you need to go. Ride on a public boat down to the beach (Iztuzu Beach) in one direction or to Lake Koycegiz and Koycegiz(town) in the other. The beach is 5km long and you can also get there by public bus (dolmus). Scenic Koycegiz Lake

Scenic Koycegiz Lake, located near to Dalaman Airport and within convenient distance of Fethiye and Marmaris, is well known for its natural hot springs and mud baths. The lake narrows into a channei, flowing into the Dalyan river and emptying into the Mediterranean at one of Turkey's most spectacular beaches. The Köycegiz Lake and Island: The Köycegiz Lake (54 km2) is the larges fresh water lake of the region. The lake is surrounded by mountains covered with pine forests, by rich earth and by reedbed.
koycegiz
The name comes from settlement place, which is in the northwest. With its island, it's a convenient lake for water skiing, sailing, canoeing, water cycling, rowing and fishing. With touristic facilities, Gedeova Island, and with its fortress ruins Gavurbag Island are distinguished from the others.
The lake is 8 m from the sea level. The depth of the lake is 1.5-5m., but at some points the depth is 60m. The lake is quiet in the morning but it waves in the afternoon.

Koycegiz town

Koycegiz is a small town at the northern end of the large Koycegiz Lake, which is joined to the Mediterranean Sea by the Dalyan stream. The main attraction of this area is the lake itself. Koycegiz is a farming town producing citrus fruit, olives, honey and cotton. The region is also known for its liquidambar trees, which produce amber gum. There are shady tea gardens, several restaurants and lodging in Koycegiz. It is a peaceful place to stay. You can take a boat excursion from Koycegiz to the Sultaniye Thermal baths, which are rich in calcium and other minerals, and also take a mud bath. Boat trips to Caunos and Dalyan are also available and you may rent bicycles to discover the area.

Köycegiz District: Köycegiz district was first established near the Köycegiz lake in 1867 with the name of Yüksek Kum. Later, the settlement took the name of Köycegiz, which means "little village" in Turkish language. There's a planned settlement in the district. Apart from the historical mosque, the district is famous for odorous different types of flowers and trees and for low windowed old houses with macrame curtains. Some of these houses are used as pendions and these houses are the mirror of the social life of the region. For those who want a peaceful, and quiet vacation away from stess and noise, Köycegiz is an ideal place. Köycegiz has facilities built around the lake. We advise you to stop by at market and taste the honey.

Old Köycegiz (köycegiz Village): it's 5 km in the east of the present Köycegiz and a half- deserted village. The settlement near the lake was the administrative center of the region before it was deserted in 1867 due to flood. Today it's used as a holiday resort by the people of Köycegiz. Apart from the historical mosque there are some mansion type houses. One of them, which is known as Ali Pasha mansion has an inscription and it is in good conditon. The mansion is used by the grand-childen of the family.
Althought it has a tourism potential, the old Köycegiz is not known much and there aren't many accommodation facilities. It's an ideal place for those who would like to experience history in a natural village atmosphere.
Especially in recent years, as an alternative to sea holiday plateau tourism has become popular. The old Köycegiz is a lovely country with its still ongoing traditions.
